TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A fugitive in Indonesia's e-ID card (e-KTP) corruption case, Paulus Tannos a.k.a. Thian Po Tjhin, has filed a pretrial motion regarding his suspect status. Paulus submitted the lawsuit to the South Jakarta District Court.
The spokesperson for Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Budi Prasetyo, stated that the institution would soon respond to the pretrial lawsuit. "KPK respects the legal rights of PT who filed the pretrial lawsuit," said Budi in a written statement on November 2, 2025.
Budi is optimistic that the panel of judges at the South Jakarta District Court will be impartial in making a decision on this pretrial lawsuit. Budi claimed that KPK has conducted the investigation of the e-ID card corruption allegations in accordance with prevailing regulations.
"Therefore, KPK ensures the legality of all investigative and prosecutorial actions, as well as the validity of all evidence obtained in handling the case," he added.
Paulus Tannos was named a suspect in the e-ID card corruption case in August 2019. The CEO of PT Sandipala Arthaputra fled abroad, leading KPK to designate him as a fugitive since August 22, 2022.
In early 2023, he was nearly captured in Thailand. Paulus escaped because the Interpol Red Notice was issued late due to the change of the fugitive's name. This change in data required KPK to search for Paulus Tannos under his new name, Thjin Thian Po.
Paulus Tannos was finally arrested in Singapore on January 17, 2025. He is currently undergoing the extradition process to stand trial in Indonesia.
On the other hand, he has applied for a stay of detention. However, the Supreme Court of Singapore rejected the application for a stay of detention.
Agvirta Armilia Sativa, Director of the Intellectual Property Monitoring Organization (OPHI) at the Ministry of Law, stated that the decision of the Supreme Court of Singapore does not automatically facilitate the extradition process for Paulus Tannos.
Virta mentioned that the extradition trial is still ongoing in the Singapore Court. They continue to coordinate with the Singaporean prosecution regarding the steps and efforts to win the trial. "The extradition trial is currently examining witnesses and experts," said Virta on Friday, October 3, 2025.
