TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Carlo Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid at the end of the 2024–2025 season as he prepares to take on a new role as the head coach of the Brazilian national team, starting on May 26, 2025.
"My feeling is that, from the 26th, I will be Brazil’s coach. It’s an important challenge, but I’m still coach of Madrid. I want to finish this fantastic adventure well," he said, as quoted from Real Madrid’s official website.
The Italian coach will depart as the most successful manager in the club’s history.
Over two separate periods, from 2013 to 2015 and from 2021 to 2025, he has secured 15 trophies, including three Champions League titles. Still, he recognizes that even the greatest stories must come to an end.
"Football, like life, is an adventure that begins and ends. I always had in mind that one day it will come to an end. A very nice period is coming to an end," he said.
Ancelotti also led Real Madrid to two La Liga titles in the 2021-2022 and 2023-2024 seasons.
Although the club remains mathematically in contention this season, a recent El Clasico defeat left Madrid seven points behind the top of the standings with only three matches remaining. Ancelotti remains focused on finishing strong.
Determined to close out the season with professionalism and pride, Ancelotti acknowledged that he is fully aware of the stakes. Despite falling short in the Champions League and Copa del Rey this season, he remains positive about his time at the club.
When asked how he feels about leaving the club, the former AC Milan coach was clear.
"No frustration at all. The day I arrived, if you told me I was going to win 11 titles in four years, I would sign it in blood. This season has not gone well for many reasons. But it has been an unforgettable period."
There is no regret in Ancelotti’s farewell. Known for his calm leadership, he reflected with gratitude on his time at Madrid.
"I never felt that Madrid did not want me. Madrid has always loved me and will always show affection to me. That's life. I couldn't possibly manage Madrid for the rest of my life," he said.
Ancelotti also acknowledged the need for renewal at the club and took a moment to thank everyone who supported him.
"A thousand thanks to this club. And we will continue. I will be a Madridista for the rest of my life. It is a period that is coming to an end. It’s spectacular. I never thought I could coach Madrid for six years and it has happened," he said.
