TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) through the Tropical Cyclone Warning Center (TCWC) Jakarta reported the emergence of the Tropical Cyclone Kalmaegi in the northern region of Papua, specifically in the North Pacific Ocean today, Sunday, November 2, 2025. This phenomenon has the potential to cause extreme weather in several parts of eastern Indonesia.

According to BMKG's analysis, the center of Tropical Cyclone Kalmaegi was detected at coordinates 10.3 degrees North Latitude and 137.0 degrees East Longitude, or approximately 1,280 kilometers north of Biak. The cyclone has a maximum wind speed of 35 knots or about 65 kilometers per hour, with a minimum air pressure of 1,000 hPa.

BMKG predicts that the impact of this phenomenon could be felt until Sunday evening at 7:00 PM local time. The maximum wind speed of Cyclone Kalmaegi is expected to increase, but it is moving away from the Indonesian region. Its direction is west-northwest towards the northern region of the Philippines.

Despite moving away, Tropical Cyclone Kalmaegi is still expected to indirectly impact the weather in eastern Indonesia on November 1-2, 2025. Areas potentially affected by moderate to heavy rainfall include the Sangihe Islands in North Sulawesi, North Maluku, Southwest Papua, and West Papua.

In addition to rain, BMKG has issued an early warning about sea waves reaching heights of 1.25-2.5 meters in several maritime areas. These warnings are for the northern Pacific Ocean off the coasts of Maluku to West Papua, the waters surrounding the Sangihe Islands, and the Talaud Islands.
