TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) mentioned the likelihood of the free nutritious meal program (MBG) creating more job openings in Indonesia. The Deputy of System and Governance of BGN, Tigor Pangaribuan, projected that the free meal program will open up to 90,000 job vacancies in over 30,000 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) across the country.
"With over 30,000 recruited to become the heads of SPPG units, we have 90,000 job vacancies for fresh graduates," he said in a written statement, quoted on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Tigor explained that within the SPPG structure, three graduate positions are needed to fill positions as the head of the public kitchen unit, a nutrition expert, and an accountant, aged 22 to 30 years.
"Thus, 30,000 nutrition experts will be needed in the future, as well as one accounting graduate per service unit. They will be employed in all provinces across Indonesia," he said.
By creating job opportunities, Tigor said, the free nutritious meal program is expected to drive the national economy as well as bolster the spirit of farmers, whose products are utilized as raw materials for the free meals.
"Providing job opportunities, purchasing agricultural products from the villages, and motivating farmers," said Tigor.
BGN noted as many as 1,295 public kitchens formed in 38 provinces across the country. Tigor said up to 30,000 SPPG units will be required to achieve the full target of 82.9 million free nutritious meal enjoyers throughout 2025.
