TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian futsal team will face Iran in the AFC Asian Futsal Cup 2026 final, scheduled for Saturday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m. Jakarta time. The match can be watched live on MNC TV or Vision+ streaming service.
Indonesia reached the final after defeating Japan 5-3 in a fierce match that went into overtime. The success of the team, led by Hector Souto, made history. Indonesia's last highest achievement in this event was was the 2022 quarter-finals in Kuwait.
Coach Hector Souto stated that his team will play the final match free from burden, since this is the first time the team has advanced to finals. He mentioned that the pressure is actually on the opposing team, Iran, which has dominated this event by winning 13 titles out of 17 editions of the Asia Futsal Cup held since 1999.
"How could we feel pressured if this is our first time in a final? Meanwhile, Iran has played 105 matches in AFC and only lost four times. Where is our pressure?" he said in a press conference before the match at Indonesia Arena on Friday, February 6, 2026, as quoted from Antara.
Iran has played in the finals 15 times, winning 13 of them. The team lost 3-2 against Japan in 2014 through a penalty shootout.
The Indonesian futsal team earlier made history by reaching the semi-finals of the 2026 Asian Futsal Cup after defeating Vietnam 3-2 in the quarter-finals. Next, they defeated Japan, a team that has been the champion four times.
Kensuke Takahashi, the coach of Japan who has previously coached the Indonesian men's futsal team, believes that the Garuda squad under Souto's guidance has the opportunity to defeat Iran. He predicted that the title match will be intense. "It will be a very intense and difficult match. But I think Indonesia has a good chance against Iran in the final," Takahashi said in a post-match press conference.
Takahashi believes that besides the performance of the Indonesian futsal team, full support from the audience will help invigorate Firman Adriansyah and his teammates. "Indonesia certainly has an incredibly supportive fan base, and the Indonesian team is currently in its best form. With such strong support, they have a great potential to win," he stated.
