TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japan Foundation is once again holding the annual Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2025 in Indonesia. The film festival, which has been held since 2016, aims to build understanding about Japan, particularly through cinema.
JFF will take place in various CGV cinemas throughout November to December 2025. This year, JFF will visit nine major cities in Indonesia.
The JFF 2025 series officially kicks off in Jakarta. The event is scheduled to take place from November 6th to 9th, 2025 at CGV Grand Indonesia.
In addition to Jakarta, the cities hosting JFF will include Bandung (November 21-23), Makassar (December 12-14), Yogyakarta (December 13-14), Palembang (December 19-21), Surabaya (December 19-21), Padang (November 22), Medan (December 6), and Balikpapan (December 6).
The JFF visits to Padang, Medan, and Balikpapan are special events for the first time. According to the organizers, this is in response to high demand from audiences in various regions.
In a press conference on Tuesday, October 14th, 2025, Japan Foundation mentioned that this year's festival will be held in hybrid format, both physically and virtually.
This decision was made in response to the post-pandemic situation and high audience demand.
The festival will screen various Japanese films across genres, such as the drama film Sunset Sunrise, The Boy and The Dog, and Petals and Memories. Additionally, romance films like Teasing Master Takagi-san and 366 Days will also be featured.
Other films include Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa, Ghost In A Shell, Linda Linda Linda, and many more.
For Japanese film enthusiasts who are interested, the updates on the JFF 2025 series can be followed through the official Instagram account (@indonesiajff). Fans can also visit the official website of Japan Foundation Jakarta.
The Japan Foundation launched a free video and Japanese film platform through JFF THEATER since August 1st, 2024. This platform supports the effort to provide wider access for audiences outside the hosting cities.
