TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, confirmed that Indonesia's textile products are not exempt from U.S. import tariffs. Indonesia has proposed several flagship commodities to be exempted from the 19 percent duties.

According to the minister, the goods eligible for tariff exemptions are natural resources, such as palm oil. "Meanwhile, manufactured products are, in quotation marks, not considered natural resources," Airlangga told the media crew in Jakarta on Friday, December 26, 2025.

The former Minister of Industry during the previous administration mentioned that commodities eligible for tariff exemptions have been listed in an executive order issued by the U.S. government. But there will be additional commodities for Indonesia, including coffee, tea, and cocoa.

Trump's government has also requested access to critical minerals in Indonesia as part of the trade negotiation between the two parties. Airlangga revealed that Danantara has been engaging the U.S. export agency to discuss this matter.

"There have been discussions between Danantara and the American export agency, as well as American companies that have been in talks with critical mineral companies in Indonesia," said Airlangga.

The government aims to have the Agreement on Reciprocal Tariff (ART) document signed by President Prabowo and President Trump by the end of January 2026. According to Airlangga, both countries have agreed on the scope of the tariff agreement.
