TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Microsoft has announced the rollout of a new setting for voice typing, allowing users to control the profanity filter. When enabled, the filter will continue to replace profanity with asterisks, as it has previously. If disabled, profanity will be typed out like any other word.
The update comes in response to top customer feedback, offering more customization for the voice typing feature.
Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager for Windows Insider, announced that this update is included in the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build code 26200.5570 (KB5055632) for the Dev Channel.
"With this setting on, voice typing will continue to filter out profanity, masking it with asterisks, like it already did. With the setting off, it will type out your profanity like any other words," LeBlanc stated in the Microsoft blog on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
To adjust the settings, users need to open voice typing (Win + H), select the settings icon, and use the profanity filter button in the settings menu.
LeBlanc explained that the changes and updates in the Dev Channel are being rolled out gradually. To confirm the update, Windows users should go to the settings and check the update history section to see if code 26200.5570 (KB5055632) has been installed.
If users have not updated, there will be no profanity filter in the voice typing feature settings. The available options will only be automatic punctuation, select default microphone, and provide feedback.
