TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres has become one of the most talked-about names in the transfer market. Several top European clubs are reportedly pursuing the Swedish striker, with Arsenal and Manchester United among the frontrunners.
According to a report by TeamTalk on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Arsenal is aiming to finalize a deal for Gyökeres during this summer’s transfer window.
Who is Viktor Gyökeres?
As noted by Transfermarkt, Viktor Einar Gyökeres is a Swedish forward born in Stockholm on June 4, 1998. He began his career with local clubs IFK Aspudden-Tellus (2010–2014) and IF Brommapojkarna (2014-2015), eventually breaking into Brommapojkarna’s senior team in January 2016.
In 2018, Gyökeres moved to England to join Brighton. However, limited impact at the club led to a series of loan spells with FC St. Pauli, Swansea, and Coventry City. Coventry signed him permanently in July 2021, and two years later, he transferred to Sporting CP in July 2023.
At Sporting, Gyökeres has thrived under coach Rúben Amorim, scoring 66 goals in 68 appearances. During the 2023-2024 season, he recorded an impressive 43 goals and 15 assists in all competitions. Notably, he netted 23 goals and contributed 4 assists in just 18 matches.
His outstanding performances have drawn widespread attention, with a total of 53 goals in 51 matches this season keeping him firmly in the spotlight.
Both Manchester United and Arsenal are strong contenders to sign Gyökeres. They are actively working in the summer transfer market to strengthen key positions. Manchester United is expected to step up its efforts to secure the striker’s signature following the Europa League final on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
