The following is the list of the top 3 news on Tempo English today:
1. Currency Analysts Link Rupiah Recovery to Trump's Postponed Tariffs
Analyst at Bank Woori Saudara, Rully Nova, believes that the postponement of the implementation of import tariff policy, known as Trump's tariffs, by U.S. President Donald Trump has influenced the strengthening of the rupiah exchange rate.
"Today, the rupiah is expected to close stronger at the range of Rp16,775-Rp16,870, influenced by global factors, namely the postponement of tariffs by President Trump," he said on Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2025, as quoted from Antara.
Trump announced that more than 75 countries will be given a 90-day suspension from the deadline on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, local time, which were previously subject to higher tariffs of more than the base limit of 10 percent. In some cases, the tariffs could be much higher.
2. Rupiah Climbs Again, Closes at Rp16,795 per US Dollar
The rupiah gained 28 points against the US dollar in Friday’s trade, April 11, closing at Rp16,795 per US dollar. This marks the second straight day of gains for the Indonesian currency, following a 35-point rise on Thursday.
“As for next Monday’s trade, the rupiah is expected to remain volatile but is likely to close stronger, within the range of Rp16,740 to Rp16,800,” currency analyst Ibrahim Assuaibi said in a written statement on Friday, April 11.
Ibrahim attributed the rupiah’s extended appreciation to Washington's decision to delay its reciprocal tariff policy. The postponement, he said, created a moment for Indonesia and other countries to resume negotiations on proposed import tariff hikes.
3. Bali Tightens Rules for Foreign Tourists
The Provincial Government of Bali has tightened regulations for foreign tourists visiting the island through Circular No. 7 of 2025, which outlines a revised code of conduct. Governor Wayan Koster said the circular specifies obligations, prohibitions, and potential sanctions for foreign visitors while staying in Bali.
Koster said that the new guidelines refine a similar circular issued in 2023, adjusted to reflect changes during his temporary absence from office.
Among the key rules, tourists are required to dress modestly, appropriately, and respectfully—especially when visiting sacred sites, tourist attractions, public spaces, or engaging in activities around Bali. Tourists are also expected to behave respectfully at temples, tourist destinations, restaurants, shopping areas, roadways, and other public areas.
