TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - There may be a new Disneyland soon in Asia. Recently, the Thai government proposed building a Disneyland in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). This world-class theme park would be a magnet to attract more high-spending international tourists and increase the average length of stay in the country.
Disneyland, a theme park brand owned by The Walt Disney Company, has many locations around the world, including in Asia: Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea in Japan, Hong Kong Disneyland in Hong Kong, and Shanghai Disneyland in China. If built in Thailand, it would be the fifth in Asia.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has repeatedly stated that Thailand is ready to attract global theme parks like Disneyland. In his latest statement, Phiphat said the high-speed rail project connecting three airports (Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, and U-Tapao) and the expansion of U-Tapao Airport and Eastern Aviation City will not be realized without creating new incentives.
Project Estimated to be Worth Nearly Rp54 Trillion
The Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee (EECO) is now tasked with analyzing and designing incentives to attract visitors to the area. A study cited by The National indicates that a Disneyland theme park would require 144–480 hectares of land.
A detailed analysis by financial publication Longtunman outlines a project with an estimated value of 100 billion Baht, or approximately Rp53.8 trillion.
As reported by Thaiger on January 10, 2026, Disneyland Thailand would likely operate under a licensing structure similar to Tokyo Disneyland, owned and managed by Oriental Land Company, not The Walt Disney Company. The Thai investor would act as the lead developer, responsible for capital expenditures related to land acquisition, construction, and operations. The Walt Disney Company would retain intellectual property rights and receive royalty fees.
The report cites Oriental Land Company's strong financial performance in 2024 as the project's potential viability. Analysts argue that this large-scale theme park would serve as a major anchor for the tourism sector, distinguishing Thailand from regional competitors.
