TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed his condolences to the victims of a train collision between the Argo Bromo intercity service and a commuter line (KRL) at Bekasi Timur Station, West Java, Indonesia, which occurred on Monday night, April 27, 2026.
The president expressed his condolences after visiting victims who are being treated at Bekasi Regional General Hospital on Tuesday morning.
“Today I came to the Bekasi hospital. Of course, we are all concerned and shocked by the accident that has occurred. I express my condolences personally and on behalf of the government,” Prabowo said, as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
He also said the government would immediately launch an investigation into the cause of the accident.
“We will immediately conduct an investigation into how the incident happened,” the president said.
Prabowo visited victims of the collision between the Argo Bromo train and a commuter line carriage who are currently undergoing treatment at the Bekasi hospital. He arrived at 8:39 a.m. local time, wearing a black peci cap and a beige safari suit, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Presidential Private Secretary Rizky Irmansyah.
He was received at the hospital by Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) President Director Bobby Rasyidin, and local officials.
Upon arrival, Prabowo immediately entered the treatment rooms to meet victims. The visit was held behind closed doors.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) President Director Bobby Rasyidin said the death toll has risen to 14.
“The deceased victims have been transported to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for identification,” Bobby said in a statement on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the number of injured—both with minor and serious injuries—has reached 84. All victims have been evacuated to nearby hospitals and health facilities for further treatment.
All fatalities and injuries were reported among passengers on the commuter train, while all 240 passengers aboard the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were safely evacuated.
