TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Millions of Singaporeans will vote on Saturday, May 3, 2025, as the Southeast Asian country holds its 14th General Election.
As reported by Channel NewsAsia, about 2.75 million people are eligible to cast their votes this year, an increase of over 100,000 voters from the previous election's 2.65 million.
Polling stations will be open from 8 AM to 8 PM on the Saturday after nine days of campaigning.
Early queues have formed at several polling stations, including Block 608 Clementi West Street 1, where voters lined up amid heavy rain.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) had previously issued a warning at 6:33 AM, alerting of heavy rain in many parts of Singapore from 7:15 AM to 8:45 AM.
A total of 206 candidates from 11 parties, including two independent candidates, are vying for 92 seats in 32 electoral divisions. The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) has secured five seats after a resounding victory in the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights Group Representation Constituency (GRC).
This election marks Lawrence Wong's first since he took office as Prime Minister last year. Key issues for voters include housing, the economy, and the rising cost of living.
The election also marks the return of physical rallies, suspended during the 2020 election due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Out of the 32 contested electoral divisions, the ruling party is contesting all 92 seats. The Workers' Party (WP), its main opposition, has fielded candidates in 26 seats.
Voters, supporters, and the public can gather at five approved counting centers before the election results announcement.
