TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit earthquake-affected areas across East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) today, August 26, 2026. His visit comes exactly 11 days after a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores Island on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Minister of the State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi stated that the President's working visit to NTT aims to assess conditions on the ground firsthand and ensure that relief operations and aid distribution are proceeding effectively.
Prasetyo added that the visit will help streamline coordination between the central government, local administrations, the military, police, and relevant agencies handling post-disaster response. "Since the beginning, Bapak President has instructed that emergency response and aid distribution be carried out quickly, comprehensively, and evenly across all disaster-affected areas," Prasetyo told reporters on Wednesday morning.
The Gerindra Party politician went on to outline the relief operations conducted since the disaster struck nearly two weeks ago. He noted that between August 15 and August 24, 2026, the Presidential Secretariat dispatched emergency logistics and equipment to the region. The supplies include 204.22 tons of basic provisions, 27.71 tons of ready-to-eat meals, 10.29 tons of bottled water, alongside medical supplies, tents, blankets, mattresses, communications gear, and two mobile field hospital units.
Healthcare services for affected residents have also been bolstered through the deployment of specialized medical units. Prasetyo highlighted the deployment of the Indonesian Navy’s hospital ship, KRI Soeharso-990, which docked at Reo Port in Manggarai Regency to provide emergency medical care. Another floating medical facility, the Airlangga Knight Hospital Ship, has been stationed at Nangalirang Bay in East Manggarai Regency.
On the ground, Prasetyo added, two regional field hospitals have been brought online. Among them, Ruteng Regional General Hospital in Manggarai Regency has performed 29 surgical procedures to date. Meanwhile, Aeramo Regional Public Hospital in Nagekeo Regency continues to handle emergency medical services and surgical care for quake victims.
"Disaster management efforts in NTT will not end with the emergency response phase," Prasetyo emphasized. He assured that recovery will proceed in stages, focusing not only on restoring public facilities and essential services, but also on long-term reconstruction to build back more resilient infrastructure and communities.
The magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores Island on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The epicenter was located at a depth of 15 kilometers, approximately 30 kilometers northeast of Mbay in Nagekeo Regency. According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the death toll had reached 103 as of Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Berton Suar Pelita Panjaitan, acting head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, told a press conference that Manggarai Regency recorded the highest number of fatalities at 41, followed by East Manggarai with 34. Berton noted that women made up the majority of victims, accounting for 55 percent of total casualties.
In terms of age demographics, senior citizens accounted for 45 percent of fatalities, adults 37 percent, children and teenagers 12 percent, and toddlers under three years old made up the remainder. Meanwhile, at least 63 people sustained injuries.
