TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will receive a state visit from the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, who is planning to visit Indonesia at the end of May 2025.
Macron will be in Indonesia for three days, from May 27th to May 29th, 2025. Preparations for Macron's visit were discussed during a meeting between the Ambassador of the French Republic, Fabien Penone, and the Secretary of the Indonesian Cabinet, Teddy Indra Wijaya, on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025. Their meeting at the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat building discussed technical and substantial coordination ahead of President Macron's visit.
"This meeting is expected to be an important momentum to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and France in various sectors," according to the official statement uploaded on the Cabinet Secretariat's Instagram on Tuesday, May 13th, 2025.
As one of the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council with veto power, and the seventh largest economy in the world, France is a strategic partner of Indonesia in various global and regional issues. President Macron's visit to Indonesia also reflects the commitment of both countries to enhance concrete cooperation in addressing global challenges.
President Prabowo and President Macron last met during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil in November 2024. The Indonesian government welcomes President Macron's planned visit and hopes that the visit will yield concrete achievements that deepen the diplomatic relations between the two countries, which have been established for more than 70 years.
Earlier this April, President Prabowo agreed to collaborate with President Emmanuel Macron of France in promoting inclusive and sustainable economic development. The purpose of this development is for the welfare of the people.

Prabowo welcomed France's commitment to enhance a strong and visionary bilateral partnership. According to Prabowo, this cooperation can contribute to the stability and prosperity of the region.
"This strategic cooperation not only reflects the national interests of each country, but also contributes to the stability and prosperity of the region as well as the world," said Prabowo.
Before Prabowo's tweet, French President Emmanuel Macron revealed that he had spoken with President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday, April 5th, 2025.
Macron said that he and Prabowo agreed to strengthen cooperation in various future projects. This cooperation is intended to build the future economy between France and Indonesia.
"France and Europe want to build the future economy with Indonesia by creating a strong value chain, especially in critical metal sectors, and supporting energy transition," he said in an Indonesian-language tweet on his official account, @EmmanuelMacron, quoted on Saturday, April 5th, 2025.
Macron stated that this cooperation will be strengthened when he makes a state visit to Indonesia at the end of May. The cooperation will be conducted in the areas of defense, economy, science, and culture.
In addition, their conversation also discussed preparations for the Gaza conference in June. The aim is to bring about peace in the Middle East and end the war in Ukraine.
"We will work together in preparing for the conference on Gaza to be held in June," Macron said.
