TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is hosting his Timor-Leste counterpart, Jose Ramos Horta, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta today, Friday, August 28, 2026. According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arrmanatha Nasir, Ramos Hosta leads a delegation of 20, including several Nobel laureates.
"Today, President Ramos Horta brought around 20 Nobel laureates here after a science meeting in Timor-Leste from (August) 24-26. This is just a courtesy call to Bapak President Prabowo," he told reporters on Friday.
When asked about which Nobel laureates are part of Ramos Horta's delegation, the deputy minister said they are peace figureheads, scientists, chemists, and others.
Ramos Horta and the Nobel and Turing Award laureates were scheduled earlier in the day to meet Indonesia's former president, Megawati Soekarnoputri, in Jakarta.
This was confirmed by Hasto Kristiyanto, Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Central Executive Board, in a written statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
Hasto stated that the meeting at the Megawati Institute would discuss developments in science and technology and their impact on humans and humanity.
Several names mentioned in attendance at the meeting, in addition to President Ramos Horta, were Timor-Leste's Ambassador to Indonesia, Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares; 1997 Nobel Prize in Economics laureate Robert C. Merton and his wife, Anita Merton; and Bambang Kesowo, a member of the Steering Committee of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
