TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali was affected by a power outage that occurred almost throughout the island of Bali on Friday afternoon, May 2, 2025, around 04:30 PM local time.
Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, the General Manager of Ngurah Rai Airport, said that the blackout happened due to a disruption in the undersea cable transfer from Java to Bali.
As a result of the disrupted electricity supply, the services at Ngurah Rai Airport are running on backup electricity supply from the airport's generators.
Ahmad Syaugi stated: "We ensure that the diesel fuel supply is sufficient as a precautionary measure," through an official statement on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Ahmad Syaugi ensured that they are making efforts to provide optimal services in this situation. They will continue to coordinate with relevant parties to monitor the developments.
According to Ahmad Syaugi, the services for arriving flights are still running normally. However, there are some flight delays due to the transition time from the state power company (PLN) to the airport generators, which impacted the system restart time.
"We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that operations can return to normal soon," he said in a statement received by Tempo.
PT PLN (Persero) previously confirmed the blackout that occurred in Bali today. The Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and TJSL at PLN Gregorius Adi stated that PLN personnel with complete equipment have been dispatched.
He said that the focus of the personnel is on gradually making repairs to ensure the electricity system can return to normal soon.
Greg claimed that the electricity supply has gradually returned. He stated that 50 percent of the affected customer's electricity access has returned to normal by 06:30 PM local time. However, PLN is still investigating the cause of the power outage.
"Up to the present time, the cause of the disruption is still under investigation," said Greg.
