TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has entered into a collaboration with China-based energy company GCL Intelligent Energy (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., to develop new and renewable energy (EBT) projects in Indonesia. The agreement was signed by Pertamina NRE's CEO John Anis and Chair of the Board of GCL Intelligent Energy, Zhi Fei.
This collaboration opens up opportunities for the development of waste power plants, renewable energy, and gas-based power plants to support the national emissions reduction target and energy resilience.
John Anis stated that this collaboration is a strategic step to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia. He was quoted as saying, "We see great potential in combining GCL's global experience with Pertamina's local capabilities and understanding," in a press release on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
As part of the collaboration, a Pertamina NRE delegation visited GCL's waste-to-energy power plant facilities. The purpose of the visit was to observe the application of technology, environmental management systems, and project operation and management practices.
Pertamina NRE considers this collaboration as the foundation for the development of clean energy technology and business models in Indonesia. This step is also expected to bolster Pertamina's support of the 2060 Net Zero Emissions target.
Meanwhile, Zhi Fei referred to Indonesia as an important market in the global clean energy development. "GCL hopes to take advantage of the acceleration of energy transition in Indonesia to build mutually beneficial cooperation with Pertamina NRE," said John Anis.
