TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Megawati Zebua, a North Sumatra provincial legislator from the Golkar Party, who went viral for pushing and choking a Wings Air flight attendant, claims the incident has been settled. The airline, however, has rejected her assertion.

“I have spoken with the director. We consider the matter resolved,” Megawati told Tempo on Wednesday, April 16.

She downplayed the altercation, describing it as a misunderstanding. “It was nothing serious. Do not blow it out of proportion like the video suggests. Let it be a lesson for everyone involved. The matter between me and the flight attendant is over,” she said.

However, Wings Air refuted her claims. “Whom exactly has Ms. MZ made peace with? (With the flight attendant) there has been no such thing,” said Roy Hutapea, Wings Air’s station manager at Binaka Airport in Gunungsitoli, to Tempo.

Wings Air’s corporate communications strategic, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, stated that the airline plans to report the incident to the Nias Police. The legal action, he said, is intended to uphold the safety, security, and comfort of passengers and crew.

“This legal step reflects our commitment to protecting our crew and ensuring that flights remain safe and professional for all parties,” Danang said.

The incident was captured in a viral 50-second video posted on social media on April 15. The footage shows Megawati Zebua arguing with a female flight attendant in a red uniform inside the aircraft cabin. Moments later, Megawati is seen pushing and choking the flight attendant.

“Watch it—I just want to sit down. It’s over. You are the one dragging this out,” she says in the video.

A man in black standing behind the flight attendant attempted to intervene and break up the dispute. Megawati is then seen making a phone call. The cause of the argument remains unclear.

North Sumatra Golkar Party chairperson Musa Rajekshah confirmed that the woman in the video is indeed legislator Megawati Zebua. “Yes, that is correct,” Musa said when contacted on Tuesday, April 15. However, he stated that he had yet to speak with her or learn the full details of the incident. “I am currently in Jakarta and have not met with her,” he said.
