TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – PT Nestle Indonesia has clarified that its production facilities in the country are not affected by a recent recall of baby formula from Nestle Suisse SA, Swiss Konolfingen, in several countries.
The recall is linked to potential contamination with the toxin cereulide in certain batches of arachidonic acid (ARA) oil used in the formula.
In a written statement, Nestle Indonesia confirmed that all products made in Indonesia are safe for consumption and meet national and international food safety standards.
“This has also been confirmed through comprehensive testing,” the company said on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
The recall only involves two imported batches of Wyeth S-26 Promil Gold pHPro 1 for infants aged 0–6 months, with batch numbers 51530017C2 and 51540017A1. Tests conducted on these batches did not detect the cereulide toxin.
However, following a request from the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) published on January 14, 2026, Nestle Indonesia has temporarily halted the distribution and import of the affected products. The company is also voluntarily withdrawing these batches under BPOM supervision.
Consumers who have the affected batches are advised to contact Nestle Indonesia’s consumer service at 0800 182 1028 or via email at [email protected] for guidance on returns or exchanges.
Nestle Indonesia confirmed that no other batches or locally marketed products, including other Wyeth formulas, are affected.
BPOM previously ordered PT Nestle Indonesia to halt distribution and temporarily suspend imports after warnings from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (EURASFF) and the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN).
The two affected batches imported into Indonesia did not test positive for cereulide, with results below the limit of quantitation (LoQ
“Even though the batches tested negative, BPOM prioritizes caution and public health, especially given the vulnerability of infants,” BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar said in a statement on Wednesday.
He urged parents to stop using the affected batches immediately, return them to the point of purchase, and contact Nestle Indonesia’s consumer service for a return or exchange.
BPOM reassured the public that other Nestle products, including S-26 Promil Gold pHPro 1 from other batches, remain safe. As of January 14, 2026, there have been no confirmed reports of illness linked to the affected batches in Indonesia.
Cereulide is a heat-resistant toxin produced by the bacterium Bacillus cereus, which cannot be destroyed by boiling or normal cooking. Exposure can cause symptoms within 30 minutes to six hours, including severe vomiting, diarrhea, and unusual drowsiness.
