TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Lombok Resort Police have shut down an illegal gold mine in Mount Kongbawi, Serage Village, after the quarry collapsed and injured three people.

The South West Praya Police Chief, Second Inspector Aswina, said that one of the victims broke a leg. "It was shut down after the mining hole collapsed, which resulted in three miners getting injured," Aswina said in his written statement on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

Aswina mentioned that the location of the illegal gold mining was within the production forest area owned by the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government. The soil in this area is highly unstable, posing a huge risk of triggering landslides, especially since the excavation is situated around slopes and cliffs.

After closing the mine, the police also dispersed the miners in the surrounding area and set up police lines to prevent people from engaging in similar activities.

The Central Lombok Police will increase patrols and monitoring in the Gunung Kongbawi area. The authorities will not hesitate to take legal action if illegal mining activities persist. "We will ramp up patrols and monitoring. If there are still illegal mining activities, we will take legal action in accordance with applicable laws," Aswina said.
