TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singer Katy Perry, along with five other women, successfully embarked on a journey to outer space aboard the New Shepard rocket by space company Blue Origin on Monday, April 14, at 09:30 AM local time.

The mission took them to the edge of space, crossing the Karman line, the recognized boundary of outer space located approximately 100 kilometers above the Earth's surface.

According to Reuters, the group included Jeff Bezos' fiancée Lauren Sanchez, CBS Mornings host Gayle King, former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, activist Amanda Nguyen, and producer Kerianne Flynn.

The New Shepard rocket, developed by Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, was designed to support space tourism and made history with this all-women flight.

According to the BBC, the spaceflight lasted 11 minutes. Upon safely landing back on Earth, the singer kissed the ground and lifted a bouquet of aster flowers toward the sky.

She described feeling a profound sense of love. In an interview with the BBC, Katy Perry revealed that she had intentionally brought the aster flowers as a tribute to her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom.

During the flight, Katy Perry was heard singing What a Wonderful World, the iconic classic by Louis Armstrong, adding a personal and emotional touch to the journey.

Not only Katy felt happy during the space journey, all crew members also felt the same contentment, including Lauren Sanchez. When she descended from the rocket, she expressed great pride in the crew while shedding tears.

"I'm so proud of this crew. I can't put it into words," she said, tearfully, as quoted from BBC.

She paused, before adding, "I looked out of the window and we got to see the moon. Earth looked so quiet. It was quiet, but really alive."

Amanda Nguyen became the first woman of Vietnamese descent to go to outer space. She shared her experience after safely landing back on Earth.

"What a beautiful world we have," she expressed to BBC.

Kerianne Flynn also revealed a sense of peace she felt during the journey to outer space. "As a filmmaker I almost felt as if I was like I was watching a really intimate film, and I was not only a witness to that film, but I was also a storyteller," she said.

In a video shared by these six women, they were seen floating in a weightless state upon reaching zero gravity. The space flight with an all-female crew was previously conducted in 1963 by Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova. She carried out a solo mission aboard the Vostok 6 spacecraft for three days.
