Jakarta Police Forge Security Alliance with 5,000 Mass Organization Members

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Inspector General of the Jakarta Metro Police, Asep Edi Suheri, announced a major collaborative effort to maintain security and public order in the capital, inviting approximately 5,000 members from various mass organizations to partner with the force.

"Today, there are more than 5,000 individuals from various backgrounds and different organizational affiliations," Asep said while leading an assembly at the Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Asep viewed Jakarta as a city that never sleeps with constant shifts in social, economic, and political dynamics. "Therefore, the role of each of us is crucial in being vigilant, observant, and caring in our respective environments," he stated.

The partnership included prominent organizations such as the United Indonesian People's Movement (GRIB), Muhammadiyah Youth Preparedness Command (KOKAM), Pemuda Pancasila (PP), Betawi Rempug Forum (FBR), Communication Forum for Betawi (Forkabi), Pemuda Pancasila (PP), and the Communication Forum of Children and Descendants of Retired Military and Police (FKPPI), among many others.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Jakarta Metro Police to utilize community members in intelligence and security roles.

Earlier in the month, Asep met with mobile coffee vendors, recognizing their strategic role due to their daily operations across the city. He stressed that these vendors are "not just coffee sellers, but also part of the eyes and ears of the police in the field," capable of reporting incidents and crimes.

The same principle is applied to online motorcycle taxi drivers (online ojek). The Jakarta Metro Police formed a special ojol community to help maintain public order, beginning with the vicinity of Gambir, Central Jakarta.

Online ojek drivers are instructed to assist in maintaining street security and report criminal activities. "So, you will also become your own police and police for your respective environments," Asep Edi Suheri said at the community's inauguration event on Friday, September 26, 2025.

To motivate participation, the Jakarta Metro Police is offering monetary incentives to ojol drivers who assist with police duties. A police representative confirmed that the funds will be provided directly by the Police Chief.

"If there is a criminal act on the road, we will provide appreciation, and even a reward of Rp500,000 from the Police Chief if there is important recorded evidence that aids in solving cases," he said.
