TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The drawing for the group division of the 2026 AFF Cup, now known as the 2026 ASEAN Championship, was held at MNC Studio in Jakarta on Thursday, January 15, 2026. The matches will take place from July 24 to August 26.
Quoted from the official website aseanutdfc.com, the draw placed Indonesia, the host country, in Group A alongside Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, and the winner of the match between Timor-Leste and Brunei Darussalam. Group B consists of Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Cambodia.
Indonesia's new national team coach, John Herdman, has stated that the team participating in the championship will not be the main team. One reason is that the schedule of matches coincides with their respective clubs' preparation.
Throughout Indonesia's participation in this championship, they have never won. Despite that, Garuda has reached the final six times in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2016, and 2020.
Thailand has been the most successful with seven championship titles. Singapore holds the second position with four championships. Vietnam has lifted the trophy three times, with the latest victory achieved two years ago. Meanwhile, Malaysia has won once.

Group B: Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand
Group A Play-off: Timor-Leste versus Brunei Darussalam
Brunei will host the first match on June 6, 2026. Three days later, the two teams will compete in Timor-Leste.
