TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After announcing the two-week ceasefire earlier this week, Iran and the United States are sitting in an in-person negotiation in Pakistan to end the war today, Saturday, April 11, 2026.

The discussions followed earlier bilateral meetings each side held separately with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to Al Jazeera

The trilateral talks involved US officials JD Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, alongside Iran's Speaker of the Parliament Mohammad Bagher and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as well as Pakistan's army chief Asim Munir, according to The Guardian.

Citing DW, Pakistani officials earlier said they were ready to facilitate both the Iranian and US delegations in any capacity required, but the ultimate decision on the structure and format rests with the warring parties.

According to Al Jazeera reporter Abid Hussain, the talks were initially meant to be "proximate talks," but the two teams moved to direct negotiations "with the Pakistani mediators also present" in the room.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed support for Iranian negotiators in a post on X. “In any case, our service to the people will not stop for a moment, and whatever the outcome of the negotiations, the government will stand by the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, leading Washington's 300-member delegation, JD Vance earlier expressed hope for a positive outcome but said the US is "not that receptive" if Tehran camp tries "to play us."

The negotiations proceeded despite earlier assertions from Iran that it would not take place without commitments on Lebanon’s inclusion in the ceasefire and US sanctions. Israel and the US have denied that attacks on Lebanon were part of the truce, while Pakistan and Iran say they were.

Israel said it had struck more than 200 targets in Lebanon in the past 24 hours, just days before talks in Washington are scheduled to take place between Tel Aviv and Beirut.

Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which it said targeted the Hezbollah group, have killed nearly 2,000 people across the country since airstrikes began in March.
