TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the price of subsidized Pertalite fuel is guaranteed to remain stable and will not increase through December 2026.
"For Pertalite, the price is guaranteed to remain fixed until December; this has already been included into [our fiscal] buffer," he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto had previously instructed that subsidized fuel prices remain untouched despite ongoing volatility in global crude oil markets.
Concurrently, the government is also evaluating potential price adjustments for non-subsidized fuels should the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP) trend downward on world markets.
State energy firm PT Pertamina has already begun incrementally adjusting non-subsidized fuel tariffs. Effective August 1, 2026, the retail price for Pertamax dropped from Rp16,250 to Rp15,950 per liter, Pertamax Green 95 decreased from Rp17,000 to Rp16,600 per liter, and Pertamax Turbo was reduced from Rp19,300 to Rp18,300 per liter.
Meanwhile, the price of subsidized Pertalite remains pegged at Rp10,000 per liter, with Biosolar holding steady at Rp6,800 per liter.
The government further noted that rolling out the B50 biodiesel program delivers three primary advantages: curbing dependence on imported diesel fuel, strengthening domestic resilience against global price shocks driven by geopolitical conflicts, and lightening the state's energy subsidy load.
"The President's directive, amid uncertainty surrounding tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, is to safeguard energy resilience. The state budget acts as a shock absorber, ensuring that with B50 implementation, we no longer import diesel. In fact, at current price levels, the subsidy expenditure for B50 remains relatively small," he said.
