TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Gold prices set by state-owned miner PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) continued to rise on Thursday, January 15, 2026, extending gains recorded since January 10, according to data from the Logam Mulia website.
The price of Antam gold increased by Rp10,000 to Rp2,675,000 per gram, up from Rp2,665,000 previously. The buyback price also climbed, reaching Rp2,521,000 per gram.
The upward trend comes amid a weakening Indonesian rupiah. Director of PT Trave Andalan Futures Ibrahim Assuaibi said the depreciation of the local currency has been a key driver behind the rising price of gold and other precious metals.
“The rupiah exchange rate toward the end of the week is expected to approach Rp16,900 per US dollar. This will push precious metal prices higher,” Ibrahim said on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
He added that strong demand for precious metals, which currently exceeds available supply, has also contributed to the price increase.
External factors have further influenced global gold prices, including rising political tensions in the United States. Markets are reacting to reports that the U.S. Attorney General has opened the possibility of an investigation into the Federal Reserve, as well as uncertainty ahead of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the legality of President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariff policy.
Tax Provisions on Gold Transactions
Gold sales transactions in Indonesia are subject to tax provisions under Regulation No. 34/PMK.10/2017, which applies to gold bars ranging from 1 gram to 1,000 grams.
Buyback transactions of Antam gold bars with a value exceeding Rp 10 million are subject to Income Tax Article 22 at a rate of 1.5 percent for taxpayers holding a Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP), and 3 percent for non-NPWP holders. This tax is deducted directly from the total buyback value.
Meanwhile, gold purchases are subject to Income Tax Article 22 at a rate of 0.45 percent for NPWP holders and 0.9 percent for non-NPWP holders. Each purchase is accompanied by proof of tax deduction.
