TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed that carp production decreased by 4.11 percent during the first three months of this year.

"It's important to note the decline in carp production," said the Director General of Fish Cultivation at Maritime Ministry, Tb Haeru Rahayu, in a virtual press conference on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

Out of the 17 fisheries commodities, carp is the only one experiencing a decrease in production during this period. According to Haeru, the decline in carp production is due to the high rainfall. Carp production in January 2026 is estimated at 70,844 tons. It is projected to decrease further to 68,850 tons one month later. The production is expected to continue declining until March, reaching only 65,130 tons.

Data from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed that the majority of cultivated fish production from January to March this year increased, with the exception of carp.

Several commodities that experienced increased production include tilapia, grouper, catfish, and shrimp. Overall, production grew by 19.09 percent from January to March of 2026.

For example, grouper production increased by an average of 11.32 percent from January to March of 2026, reaching an estimated 2,056 tons in March.

In terms of quantity, the largest cultivated fish production is tilapia. Tilapia production reached 142,264 tons in January 2026, then increased to 169,673 tons a month later, with an expected further increase to 171,748 tons in March 2026.

Given this level of production, Haeru is optimistic that the demand for fishery products during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr will be met.
