Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has received a visit from the Russian government to explore the opportunity for collaboration in the development of 5G network in Indonesia. This collaboration also targets the digital ecosystem, postal services, broadband, and local markets in the country. "We are open to the possibility of collaboration that we can enhance, including telecommunications, digital ecosystem, and emerging technologies," said Deputy Minister of Komdigi, Nezar Patria, in his official statement on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Nezar stated that Indonesia is interested in expanding international connectivity that includes network capacity (bandwidth) for internet and data transmission. He believes that fast internet access at low cost has great potential to be realized through this collaboration.

According to Nezar, Russia is slightly ahead of Indonesia in terms of network technology. The country led by Vladimir Putin offers cheap internet costing less than US$4 for a speed of 100 megabits per second (mbps). "If we collaborate, we can reduce internet costs like Russia. So, in my opinion, this is a good initiative and hopefully it can create collaboration to follow up on this initiative," Nezar said.

Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communication and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, Andrey Zarenin, expressed Russia's readiness to strengthen synergy with Indonesia in the field of digital transformation. He stated that this is done through the exchange of technology and best practices, as well as the formation of the Joint Commission on Indonesia-Russia for Information Technology and Digital Society.

Andrey Zarenin revealed the opportunity for collaboration with leading technology companies from Russia related to fiber optic mainline infrastructure solutions and Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology. "I am also confident that we will start important agreements in the field of information technology and media at the national and corporate levels," Andrey said in the same release.
