“The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is a very positive development for global energy supply stability, including for Indonesia. It provides certainty for energy distribution routes that were previously disrupted due to geopolitical dynamics,” Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
She further said that the government had anticipated various scenarios of global supply disruptions from the outset, including by strengthening national reserves and diversifying energy sources.
“The government ensured that national energy resilience remained intact during the recent period of uncertainty. With the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, pressure on global supply chains has begun to ease, including on the movement of global oil prices, which are showing a downward trend,” Anggia added.
Earlier, Iranian authorities officially announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for international commercial shipping. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that shipping lanes for all commercial vessels through the strait are now fully open.
“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open,” Abbas said.
The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz was immediately welcomed by global markets, reflected in a significant decline in oil prices, indicating reduced concerns over potential supply disruptions.
As widely known, the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s main energy distribution routes, playing a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of global oil and gas supply chains.
Meanwhile, regarding Indonesian state energy firm Pertamina’s vessels that were previously held in the area, the ministry said it continues to coordinate efforts to ensure the two ships can soon pass through.
“As we know, the government continues to pursue negotiations so that Indonesian vessels can pass. There have already been positive signals from the Iranian government on this matter. We hope that shipping activities will gradually return to normal as the route reopens. The government is continuing to coordinate with all stakeholders to ensure that domestic energy distribution remains smooth,” Anggia said.
On the other hand, the government stressed that it will continue to closely monitor global developments and take responsive measures to maintain the stability of domestic energy supply and prices.
