TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The University of Indonesia (UI) has secured the 191st position globally according to the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR) 2027. The London-based higher education analysis institution released its latest university rankings on June 18, 2026.
In the latest list, UI stands as the sole Indonesian university to break into the global top 200. This achievement cements UI as the highest-ranked university in Indonesia according to QS, with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) following closely behind at 206th place.
On a regional scale, UI ranks 47th in Asia. Meanwhile, within Southeast Asia, the university occupies the 8th spot.
UI Rector Heri Hermansyah stated that the campus's success in maintaining its position within the global top 200 is an asset that must continue to be leveraged. "This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of the entire academic community, alumni, and partners. With this same spirit, we will continue to move forward," Heri said, as quoted by Antara on Saturday, June 20, 2026.
In the QS 2027 rankings, UI scored outstanding marks in employer reputation (87.4), employment outcomes (81.0), and international faculty ratio (88.4). These metrics form part of the primary indicators utilized by QS to evaluate university standings.
According to the official QS website, five performance indicators are used to assess the quality of higher education. These include Research and Discovery weighted at 50 percent, Employability and Outcomes at 20 percent, Learning Experience at 10 percent, Global Engagement at 15 percent, and Sustainability at 5 percent.
For the QS World University Rankings 2027, Quacquarelli Symonds evaluated 1,504 universities from various countries. A total of 20 universities from Indonesia managed to make the final list.
