TEMPO.CO, Jakarta — Indonesia’s national futsal team is intensifying preparations ahead of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup, scheduled to take place in Jakarta from January 27 to February 7. Before the tournament, coach Hector Souto’s squad will play two closed-door friendly matches to fine-tune their tactics.
Indonesia will face Tajikistan on Sunday, January 18, and Japan on Friday, January 23.
“The Indonesian futsal team will play these matches to sharpen tactics ahead of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026,” the team wrote on its official Instagram account on Thursday, January 15, 2026, as reported by Antara.
Both Tajikistan and Japan are participants in the 2026 tournament but are in a different group. Indonesia is drawn in Group A alongside South Korea, Iraq, and Kyrgyzstan, while Tajikistan and Japan are in Group C with Uzbekistan and Australia.
Tournament Kickoff: Indonesia vs. South Korea
Indonesia will open its campaign against South Korea on January 27, followed by a match against Kyrgyzstan two days later. The group stage concludes with a game against Iraq on January 31. All matches involving Indonesia will be held at Indonesia Arena, starting at 07:00 PM local time.
Coach Souto has called on Indonesian fans to support the team in person.
“To our supporters, join us during the AFC championship. I think this is the perfect moment to watch the best futsal in Asia, featuring a truly strong national team,” said Souto, who led Indonesia to a gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games.
The AFC Futsal Asian Cup was first held in 1999 in Malaysia. Iran is the most successful team in the tournament’s history, winning 13 of the 17 editions, including their latest title in 2024 after defeating host Thailand 4-1.
Indonesia has participated in ten editions of the tournament, achieving its best result in 2022. In Kuwait, the Garuda team reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Japan, who went on to win the championship.
