TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is encouraging the Russian government to invest in 25 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in Indonesia. Airlangga said that this has strategic investment potential for Indonesia's partner countries. 'The development of SEZ is aimed at accelerating the even distribution of development, increasing regional competitiveness, and creating new job opportunities through economic activities with high added value. Indonesia encourages Russia to invest in these SEZs,' Airlangga said after a bilateral meeting with Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov in Jakarta, as quoted from the official statement on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
Regarding the SEZ, Airlangga explained that there are 13 Industrial SEZs, 8 Tourism SEZs, 3 Digital SEZs, and 1 Aero Technic SEZ. They are spread from Aceh to Papua.
According to Airlangga, the Russian Federation is a strategic partner for Indonesia. During the meeting, both parties discussed various developments of bilateral cooperation and strategic cooperation initiatives in various sectors. Several potential cooperation topics discussed included the agricultural, livestock, halal certification, and renewable energy sectors.
In addition, Minister Airlangga also conveyed that Indonesia is committed to accelerating the completion of the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA) negotiations. Indonesia is optimistic about completing the negotiations this year, as directed by President Prabowo Subianto. 'Indonesia asks for Russia's support to urge the four other EAEU member countries to promptly complete the internal processes in their respective countries,' he said.
