TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The smell of rotten eggs wafted through the classroom at Vocational High School (SMKN) 1 Cihampelas, West Bandung Regency, West Java, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. The odor came from the contents of the ompreng (meal container) of the free nutritious meal (MBG) served to students. The lunch menu that day consisted of egg, potato, and lotek—boiled vegetables smothered in peanut sauce.

Farhan Indra—not his real name—recounted that he smelled the odor upon entering the room. The 11th-grade student at SMKN 1 Cihampelas still took the meal container and tasted the dish. However, Farhan lost his appetite after seeing the peanut sauce was slimy. “I felt nauseous and vomited half an hour after eating,” he told Tempo on Friday, October 10, 2025.

Farhan's teachers and friends quickly took the 16-year-old to the school health unit for first aid, then transported him to the community health center (Puskesmas) two kilometers away. Farhan's condition did not improve despite taking anti-nausea medication. He only fully recovered after being taken to Cililin Regional General Hospital (RSUD) and staying overnight.

Farhan was one of 121 students at SMKN 1 Cihampelas who suffered mass poisoning during the last week of September 2025. The food packages came from the Mekarmukti Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), Cihampelas District. The administrative staff of SMKN 1 Cihampelas, Dadi Karmawan, stated that the provider delivers 1,400 portions daily.
