TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian modern pentathlon athlete Dea Salsabila Putri claimed the 79th gold medal for Indonesia at the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand. She achieved the victory on the second day of competition at Jomtien Beach in Pattaya City, Chonburi, on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Dea finished first in the women’s triathle event with a time of 18 minutes 01.83 seconds, ahead of six competitors, including her fellow Indonesian, Nurfa Inayah Nurul Qolbi.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), finally I am able to bring home the SEA Games gold for Indonesia," Dea, the country’s first-generation modern pentathlon athlete, said in a written statement.

She expressed gratitude to her parents, the Central Board of Modern Pentathlon Indonesia (MPI), and the government for their support. "I hope this achievement serves as an inspiration for young athletes and my juniors in the process of regeneration," she added.

This gold medal marks Dea’s fourth at the SEA Games, having previously won three at the 2019 edition in the Philippines. The modern pentathlon’s triathle event combines running, swimming, and laser shooting.

Although Nurfa finished second with a time of 18 minutes 13.14 seconds, SEA Games regulations prevent a single country from winning multiple medals in the same event. As a result, the silver went to Filipino athlete Shyra Mae Aranzado (18:29.30), while the bronze was claimed by Thai representative Aisika Kaewyongkod (18:39.99).

In the men’s individual triathle event, Indonesia’s Farras Satrio Aris secured the silver medal with a time of 14 minutes 27.79 seconds. He was bested by Filipino athlete Michael Ver Anton Comaling, who finished in 14:10.17, while Thai athlete Phurit Yohuang took bronze in 15:16.00.

With Dea’s gold and Farras’ silver, Indonesia’s modern pentathlon contingent has so far contributed one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal to the country’s SEA Games tally. "Hopefully Dea’s success can inspire our athletes competing on the final day tomorrow," said MPI Chair Air Marshal Muda Purwoko Aji Prabowo.

The modern pentathlon event continues on Friday, December 19, with the Individual Men’s and Women’s Obstacle Laser Run. Indonesian athletes M. Ifsan and Caroline Andita Bangun are expected to contend for more medals.
