Bomb Threat Targets Saudia Airlines Flight Carrying 442 Hajj Pilgrims from Jeddah

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Saudia Airlines flight, SV 5276, operating on the Jeddah-Jakarta route and scheduled to land at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, received a bomb threat while carrying 442 Hajj pilgrims from Group 12 JKS.

"Specifically, there were 207 male passengers and 235 female passengers," said Director General of Air Transportation Lukman F. Laisa in a written statement on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

According to Lukman, the threat was sent via email by an unidentified individual at 07:30 AM WIB (Western Indonesia Time).

"The email contained a threat from an unknown person to detonate the Saudia Airlines SV 5276 aircraft," he said.

In response, Soekarno-Hatta Airport activated its Emergency Operation Center (EOC), the airport’s command hub for managing emergencies. Members of the airport’s Security Committee were also summoned to the EOC to coordinate necessary actions regarding the threat.

At 10:17 AM WIB, the flight’s pilot decided to divert the aircraft to Kualanamu Airport in North Sumatra as a precaution. Kualanamu Airport, in turn, coordinated with the Airport Authority Region II, activated its EOC, and mobilized its Security Committee to respond to the situation.

"The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (Jihandak) team from the Police is on standby at Kualanamu Airport to handle security measures in accordance with the regulations," Lukman said.

By around 10:55 AM WIB, the plane had safely landed at Kualanamu and was directed to an isolated parking area.

"Kualanamu Airport has evacuated the pilgrim passengers, and the Jihandak team is conducting a sweep for the presence of bombs on the aircraft," Lukman said.
