BMKG Warns of Extreme Weather Across Indonesia, Heavy Rains Expected April 4-6

6 days ago 5

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics (BMKG) has urged several regions to stay alert for potentially increased rainfall from April 4 to 6, 2025.

The rain is expected to range from heavy to very heavy, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Based on the Weekly Weather Outlook issued by the BMKG for the period of April 4-10, 2025, the alert for increased rainfall at the end of this week is directed at the regions of West Java, Central Java, and East Java. Additionally, this includes Aceh and Lampung.

Other areas mentioned are West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, Southwest Papua, Highlands Papua, Papua, and South Papua.

Recent analysis shows that multiple atmospheric phenomena are expected to influence Indonesia's weather patterns in the coming week.

BMKG has detected active Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), equatorial Rossby waves, Kelvin waves, and low-frequency patterns across northern and eastern Indonesia.

In addition, cyclonic circulation is anticipated in several areas, including the southwest Indian Ocean near Lampung, the northwest waters of Aceh, the Natuna Sea, the southeast Indian Ocean near East Nusa Tenggara, and North Maluku.

These conditions are likely to enhance convective activity, potentially triggering significant weather events. The public is encouraged to stay alert and take precautions against extreme weather, including heavy rain and strong winds, which could affect comfort and travel safety—especially during the Eid homecoming return flow period.
