TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Travel trends change constantly. Travel is no longer just about seeing the world, but also an opportunity for travelers to have more time for themselves, discover themselves, immerse themselves in culture, nature, and more.
Skyscanner's Travel Trends Report 2026 states that the future of travel is personal, purposeful, and immersive. Based on a global survey, the report identifies trends that show how people want to explore the world in the coming year, whether it's connecting with culture, embracing wellness, or exploring unexplored corners of the globe.
Here are the travel trends according to Skyscanner's Travel Trends Report 2026:
1. Glowmads
Glowmads means traveling not just to relax, but also to restore, refresh, and rediscover themselves. This means travelers are traveling for beauty, wellness, and self-care. According to Skyscanner, trips focused on skincare rituals, spa experiences, and beauty treatments are on the rise. Destinations like Seoul, known for its K-beauty, and Tokyo and Paris, known for their drugstores, have become popular destinations for travelers seeking skin rejuvenation.
2. Shelf Discovery
Many travelers travel to discover authentic flavors and hidden gems. The Shelf Discovery trend sees travelers explore local markets, supermarkets, and specialty shops, for example, to sample rare cheeses in France or discover street food in Bangkok. They want to eat like the locals.
3. Mountain Getaways
Mountains are no longer just winter destinations; highlands are now becoming year-round destinations. What makes mountains appealing to travelers is their serene landscapes, fresh air, and natural surroundings. According to Skyscanner, travelers are increasingly booking stays at mountain lodges, mountain retreats, and hill stations, even outside of peak season.
4. Traveling for Books
Nearly 50 percent of travelers in a Skyscanner survey reported being influenced by literature when planning their trips, from literary festivals to places made famous by favorite authors or books. The places visited connect imagination with reality, for example, searching for Sherlock Holmes's footprints in London.
5. Solo Traveling for Social Activities
The trend of solo travel has been growing in recent years, but for the coming year, solo travel will be driven by purpose. In addition to exploring, travelers are traveling alone for meaningful engagement with local communities, such as volunteering, participating in local rituals, or joining group activities.
6. Three-Generation Vacations
In addition to solo travel, three-generation family vacations are also becoming popular, according to Skyscanner. Family vacations now include grandparents, parents, and children, creating multigenerational experiences. The chosen destinations and activities appeal to all ages, such as adventure, relaxation, and cultural engagement.
7. Destination Check-in
Hotels or resorts are no longer just a travel accessory but have become the primary destination. Travelers now book accommodations based on the architecture, amenities, and experiences in unique locations.
