TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO) officially signed a Mining Service Agreement with PT Antareja Mahada Makmur on May 30, 2025. Through this cooperation, Vale will be involved in the mining and transportation of nickel ore in Block Bahadopi 1, Central Sulawesi.
Chief of CEO Office and Corporate Secretary of Vale Indonesia, Wiwik Wahyuni, stated that this contract would strengthen the company's operational activities. "It will enhance the company's business operations with additional nickel ore production from Block 1 Bahadopi to complement the existing Sorowako Block," she said in a disclosure at the Indonesia Stock Exchange, quoted on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
According to Wiwik, the scope of this cooperation includes land stripping services, nickel ore mining and transportation, as well as the construction of related mining infrastructure.
Previously, Vale Indonesia was also reported to be working on three nickel downstream projects, with a total investment value reaching US$8.5 billion or around Rp146.52 trillion (current exchange rate). These three projects are included in the national strategic program aimed at strengthening the domestic nickel industry capacity.
The CEO of MIND ID, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, stated that the appointment of Vale Indonesia for these downstream projects aims to increase production capacity and promote nickel product diversification. "As the majority shareholder of PT Vale Indonesia, MIND ID encourages initiatives to boost production capacity of nickel downstream products," Maroef said in a written statement on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
With this investment value, these three projects are expected to increase Vale's production capacity by up to 240 thousand tons of nickel per year in the form of mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP). The projects include the Indonesia Growth Project (IGP) in Pomalaa and Morowali, as well as the HPAL Sorowako project. "The target completion of these projects is expected to be realized between 2026 and 2027," Maroef added.
He further added that with the increased production capacity, MIND ID and Vale Indonesia are optimistic that these projects will have a multiplier effect on the national economy. In addition to job creation, the projects are also expected to increase state revenues. "We want to ensure that MIND ID's presence in managing Vale Indonesia is able to drive greater added value for the company and accelerate the downstreaming of nickel," he said.
