TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will implement a flat fare of Rp80,000 per passenger on all train routes in Indonesia on Sunday, September 28, 2025. This special promotion is part of the celebration of KAI's 80th anniversary and its eight decades of service in the mass transportation sector.
Rafli Yandra, KAI's Director of Business and Development, announced the promotion during the "KAI Goes to Campus" event at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Solo, Central Java.
"Coinciding with KAI's 80th anniversary, we will offer a special promo. Specifically, on September 28, the ticket price will be only Rp80,000 for all routes in Indonesia," said Rafli.
He explained that the special price is intended to give the public an opportunity to travel at a more affordable rate. While he did not provide further details on the exact mechanism or conditions, he urged the public to stay updated by following KAI’s official social media accounts.
Discounts and Digital Innovations
In addition to the one-day flat fare, KAI is offering a regular 20% discount program on train tickets for departures from September 1 to September 30, 2025. This promotion is also part of the 80th-anniversary celebration. Information about this discount can be found on the Access by KAI application or the official website, kai.id.
Rafli also mentioned that KAI continues to implement various innovations, particularly in the digital sector. The company plans to transform the "Access by KAI" application into a "super app" to enhance passenger comfort and safety.
One of the latest innovations is the "Female Seat Map" feature, which is designed to provide a safe and comfortable experience for female passengers. With this feature, female passengers can see the gender of other passengers who have already booked seats in the same carriage. This allows them to choose a seat next to another female passenger.
On the seat map, empty seats will be indicated in white, while seats occupied by female passengers will be marked in pink. Male passengers will not be able to see this specific seat map.
KAI’s Outreach to the Younger Generation
At the "KAI Goes to Campus 2025" event, participants and the public had the opportunity to receive a 30% discount on train tickets purchased at the KAI booth.
Feni Novida Saragih, the Public Relations Manager of KAI Operation Region 6 Yogyakarta, stated that this promo is KAI's way of showing appreciation to the younger generation and promoting the use of public transportation.
"KAI Goes to Campus is a platform for KAI to get closer to the public, especially the younger generation, and to collaborate with educational institutions," Feni said.
"Through this event, KAI hopes that the younger generation will get to know KAI more closely and understand KAI's modern, environmentally friendly, and sustainable transformation," she concluded.
