TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Student Executive Board (BEM) of Padjadjaran University, West Java, Indonesia, has raised allegations of sexual harassment involving a senior professor at the university’s Faculty of Nursing, identified by the initials IY.

The professor is accused of sending inappropriate and sexually suggestive messages to an exchange student. Screenshots of the alleged conversation circulated widely on the social media platform X in recent days.

In a joint statement issued on April 15, the university-wide BEM and the Nursing Student Council BEM said they had coordinated with campus authorities to ensure the case is properly addressed.

They called for a thorough investigation and stressed zero tolerance for sexual violence in academic settings.

“We reject any form of tolerance or perpetuation of sexual violence in the academic environment. There must be no space for institutions, organizations, or individuals who remain silent, protect perpetrators, or prioritize reputation over the safety of victims,” the statement said.

Representatives of the student bodies and university officials held a meeting later that day, as shared on the BEM’s Instagram account. According to the students, the university expressed its commitment to following up on the case.

During the meeting, the university also pledged to issue an official statement within 24 hours outlining both immediate measures and longer-term steps to prevent and address sexual violence on campus.

Separately, the Nursing Student Council reaffirmed its support for the victim, urging the university to prioritize protection, assistance, and recovery.

“We stress that no form of sexual violence can be justified under any circumstances, and such actions have no place in the campus environment,” the council said.
