TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya claimed that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto contributes to the cost of overseas travel. For instance, he stated that if the budget allocated for overseas travel exceeds, Prabowo will cover the excess expenses from his personal funds.
"So, any excess expenses that have been budgeted by the state are fully covered by President Prabowo's private funds," said Teddy via a video statement on Monday, June 1, 2026.
He also claimed that the number of the president's entourage during overseas visits has decreased in Prabowo's era compared to the previous administrations. Teddy stated that the number of state delegations has now only half of the previous presidents' era.
Teddy said that during the pre-Prabowo era, the president's delegation during overseas visits could be more than 120 people. "During President Prabowo's era, the number ranges from 50 to a maximum of 60 people. This is widely known, including the journalists," he said.
In his statement, Teddy did not disclose the budget set by the state for President Prabowo's visits abroad. He also did not reveal the amount of money from Prabowo's personal funds used to cover the excess expenses of the president's overseas travels.
This lieutenant colonel military officer made the clarification in response to the criticism from the founder of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), Dino Patti Djalal. Previously, Dino had presented five suggestions to President Prabowo, who was criticized for frequently traveling abroad.
In a video posted on his Instagram account @dinopattidjalal, Dino stated that many Indonesians requested President Prabowo to significantly reduce the frequency of overseas travels and not underestimate the public's outcry.
"In our calculation, among all world leaders, President Prabowo has become the head of state who frequently travels abroad the most," said Dino.
This former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs mentioned that the cost of a single presidential trip abroad could reach tens to hundreds of billions. The expenses include the entourage's team, aircraft, hotels, logistics, consumption, protocols and security, daily allowances for all delegations and accompanying staff, as well as various other expenses.
"State visits abroad incur significant and even enormous expenses," said the former ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United States.
