TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto revealed his aspirations for the newly established Board of Peace during its inaugural high-level meeting, initiated by US President Donald Trump.
Prabowo emphasized that the Board could provide a solution to the longstanding Palestinian issue.
“We will achieve our dream of peace in Palestine, peace, a lasting and peaceful solution for the Palestinian problem and in Gaza,” Prabowo said during his speech on Thursday, February 19, 2026, local time.
Prabowo also acknowledged that the Board of Peace would face challenges in its journey but expressed confidence that all problems could be resolved.
He explained that Indonesia joined the Board of Peace because he believed this UN shadow body could help realize peace, particularly in Palestine. Prabowo also confirmed his support for the 20-point Gaza peace plan proposed by President Trump, who initiated the Board of Peace.
The Gerindra Party chair expressed optimism about Trump’s leadership in the Board of Peace, stating that the US president could achieve genuine peace through this international framework.
"We know there will be a lot of obstacles, there will be a lot of difficulties, but we are very optimistic with the leadership of President Trump, this vision of real peace will be achieved," he said.
During his address, Prabowo reiterated his hope for peace in Gaza and a permanent resolution to the Palestinian issue.
He also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to the International Stabilization Force (ISF) mission in Gaza, with approximately 8,000 National Armed Forces (TNI) personnel currently being prepared for deployment.
"We commend this, and therefore we reaffirm our commitment to contribute a significant number of troops, up to 8,000 or more if necessary. We are prepared to contribute the troops to take part actively in the ISF to make this peace work," Prabowo added.
The ISF is expected to operate under the guidance of the Board of Peace, established by President Trump and approved by the United Nations Security Council via Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025.
At the first Board of Peace meeting, President Trump welcomed the attending state representatives, including President Prabowo, and highlighted that member countries would contribute both funding and personnel to maintain the ceasefire in Gaza.
Trump specifically acknowledged Indonesia, saying, “Indonesia, thank you very much, Indonesia. This is a great country.”
