TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump conducted a state visit to the UK. He met with King Charles and other members of the British Royal Family.
Upon landing in the UK for their state visit, Trump was welcomed by King Charles. However, Trump reportedly broke a major royal protocol, according to Cosmopolitan.
As part of the welcome, King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, better known as Will and Kate, had cleared their schedules to greet Trump and his wife, Melania, at Windsor Castle. The welcome for Trump included a flypast by the Red Arrows.
The welcome also featured a specially curated exhibition, showcasing the long-standing relationship between the U.S. and the UK, as well as a grand military parade.
In a video shared by reporter Narinder Kau, Trump was seen walking in front of King Charles while speaking to a guard. This was a major breach of royal protocol.
"Oh god..he's walking in front of the King, like Charles doesn't even exist or matter!" Kaur wrote in the video caption. The video has garnered over 4,000 likes. Walking ahead of the King is deemed as a sign of disrespect, especially in his own realm.
Trump and his wife, Melania, visited the UK on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. During their meeting with the British Royal Family, King Charles praised Donald Trump's personal commitment to finding solutions to some of the world's most intractable conflicts.
In response, Trump praised the special relationship between the U.S. and the UK. As reported by the BBC, Trump said the word "special" doesn't do it justice.
King Charles's speech, at a sumptuous dinner for 160 guests held at Windsor Castle, emphasized the deep relationship between the two countries and the need to preserve cultural, trade, and military ties. "Our people have fought and died together for the values we hold dear," King Charles said.
