TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar interprets Christmas as a call for people of faith to care for the planet. Nasaruddin delivered this message during his official Christmas 2025 address.
In the face of climate change and environmental damage, Nasaruddin believes every family must help find solutions. "Faith must touch the way we live. Reducing plastic, planting trees, and saving energy—these are our expressions of gratitude to God for His creation," said Minister Nasaruddin Umar, as quoted from the Ministry of Religious Affairs website on Friday, December 26, 2025.
He reminded the public that Christmas 2025 arrives as parts of Sumatra struggle with recent disasters. "The strength of Christmas lies not in the extravagance of the celebration, but in the courage to share the burden with those who are wounded," he said.
Nasaruddin also urged Christians to see Christmas 2025 as a time to focus on the family—the place where love, faith, and hope begin. He stated that the family is the heart of the nation. According to him, strong churches, harmonious societies, and a hopeful Indonesia grow from stable and loving homes.
"If the family is restored, then the church will thrive. If the church is strong, society becomes harmonious. And if our families are resilient, this nation will rediscover its direction and hope," said Nasaruddin.
He emphasized that during times of social division, economic pressure, and the impact of disasters, the home must be a safe space for faith and humanity. For this reason, he said, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has made strengthening family resilience a primary strategic goal.
For Nasaruddin, families do more than raise children; they teach values of moderation, empathy, and social duty. "Spiritually and socially healthy families are the strongest foundation for a peaceful and civilized Indonesia," he said.
Nasaruddin hopes that Christmas serves as a bridge for solidarity and humanity. "Let us make the family a harbor of saving love, as well as a guardian of the universe entrusted by God. Merry Christmas 2025 and a welcome to the New Year 2026," said Nasaruddin.
