TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S President Donald Trump is upset over the presence of Russia's President Vladimir Putin and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un in China. They came to the military parade celebration at the invitation of China's President, Xi Jinping.
In his social media post, Trump declared that Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un met to collectively "conspire" against the U.S.
"May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration," Trump wrote on Truth Social while the three leaders met for the first time in Beijing. "Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and (North Korean leader) Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America," he said, as quoted from USA Today.
Trump's comments came as the three leaders met to show solidarity among countries shunned by the West as they were accused of backing Russia in the war against Ukraine. The Russia-Ukraine war is deemed the worst in Europe in 80 years.
Trump denounced the "Axis of Upheaval," as the group is known. At the same time, he said he is not worried that they will pose a threat to the United States. I’m not concerned at all, nope, we have the strongest military in the world, by far," Trump said on The Scott Jennings Radio Show, a conservative outlet. "They would never use their military on us, believe me."
China held its largest military parade on Wednesday to showcase its growing military strength and geopolitical influence. Meanwhile, Xi Jinping sought to present Beijing as a custodian of a post-U.S. international order.
The parade in Beijing also marked the 80th anniversary of Japan's defeat in World War II. Weeks of preparations were made for the highly organized 'Victory Day' parade. The city center of Beijing was paralyzed due to security and traffic arrangements.
Trump stated in a post that he hopes America's role in Japan's defeat is not forgotten in China. "The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and “blood” that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
The U.S. Office of the Historian said that during the war against Japan, the U.S. aided China. Before the U.S. entered the war, America combined a strategy of providing credits for war supplies to China through the Lend-Lease program, while at the same time, the U.S. began withholding vital supplies for Japan's military efforts, revealed the federal office of historians.
Trump also expressed his frustration with Putin over the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. "I'm very disappointed in President Putin, I can say that," Trump said on The Scott Jennings Radio Show. "Thousands of people are dying... It’s a war that makes no sense."
Trump's comments about the ongoing conflict came weeks after the summit with Putin in Alaska. The meeting ended without either reaching an agreement to end the war.
