TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pertamina Internasional EP (PIEP) carried out the first lifting of 1 million barrels of crude oil from Arzew Port, Oran, Algeria, to Indonesia on December 24, 2025.

"We are committed to strengthening the national energy resilience through superior and sustainable operational practices in Algeria," said PIEP President Director Syamsu Yudha in a written statement on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

The shipment marks the first production after the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) extension for Block 405A. The revenue-sharing contract aims to ensure Pertamina's operational continuity in Algeria for the next 25 years to support national energy resilience.

Pertamina's commercial relationship with the Algerian state-owned company, Sonatrach, has been established since the 2002-2003 period through yearly contracts. The cooperation then continued with spot transaction flexibility from 2006-2013, and entered a significant expansion phase since 2014 through the acquisition of the management rights of Menzel Lejmat (MLN).

Before lifting 1 million barrels, Pertamina and Sonatrach signed the Lifting Service Contract on December 22, 2025, at the Sonatrach Head Office. The signing was carried out by the President Director of Pertamina Algeria EP (PAEP), Jon Erwin, and Mayouf Belgacem, Sonatrach's VP of Commercialization.

PIEP President Commissioner Dharmawan H. Samsu stated that the inaugural lifting reaffirms the strategic value of the Block 405A extension for the next 25 years. "This is a significant achievement after an intense contract negotiation process," he said.

Meanwhile, PAEP President Director Jon Erwin emphasized that the mutually beneficial cooperation with Sonatrach has provided a strong legal and operational foundation to optimize the potential of Block 405A.
