1. Police Vehicle Reportedly Runs Over and Kills Ojol Driver in Jakarta Protest

Lily Pujiati, the chair of the Indonesian Public Transportation Workers Union (SPAI), announced that the online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver who was run over by a police mobile brigade's car on late Thursday, August 28, 2025, has passed away. Video footage on social media has shown that an armored vehicle ran over the driver while the police were dispersing protesters near Bendungan HIlir II flats, Central Jakarta.

"The body is at the Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital," said Lily when confirmed by Tempo tonight.

According to one of the flat's residents, Kevin, the armored vehicle ran over an ojol driver who had fallen in the middle of the road. "There was a motorcycle taxi driver who fell and was hit. But the vehicle did not stop and just moved forward until it ran over the victim," Kevin told Tempo on Thursday night, August 28, 2025.

2. Jakarta Protest: Police Vehicle Runs Over Two Ojol Drivers, One Killed

Two online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers became victims of being run over by the police mobile brigade's tactical vehicles of the Jakarta Metro Police on Thursday, August 28, 2025. From the incident, one person was confirmed dead at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital (RSCM). Meanwhile, another one suffered a broken leg and is being treated at Pelni Hospital, West Jakarta.

The Chairperson of the Indonesian Transport Workers' Union (SPAI), Lily Pujiati, mentioned that the deceased victim was named Affan Kurniawan, while the survivor of this incident is Moh Umar Amarudin. "The victim died at RSCM. The victim with a broken leg is at Pelni Hospital," said Lily to Tempo on Thursday night.

3. BEM SI, BEM UI Rally Today After Police Vehicle Runs Over Ojol Driver

The Student Executive Body Alliance of Indonesia (BEM SI) is urging the public to take to the streets to protest the police force's brutality in dealing with the demonstration at the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Thursday, August 28, 2025. While dispersing the demonstrators, the Brimob tactical vehicle ran over an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver, resulting in a fatality.

In response, the BEM SI is calling on the public to join the protest. "Today we take to the streets not only to reject policies that harm the people, but also to reject the anarchic actions of the authorities," the alliance wrote in a post on the @bemsi.official social media account on Friday, August 29, 2025.

The alliance plans to stage a centralized action at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta at 13:00 WIB (Indonesian Western Time). In addition, campuses in other areas will also hold demonstrations in their respective regional police precincts.
