The following is the list of the top 3 news on Tempo English today:
1. Civil Society Coalition Says Prabowo Fails to Grasp Public Aspirations
The Civil Society Coalition believes that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has failed to understand the people's aspirations during the recent wave of protests. According to the coalition, the public's dissatisfaction is not only about statements made by members of the House of Representatives (DPR) that are considered unsympathetic. Instead, the public is dissatisfied with a system full of injustice.
"Therefore, the changes, attitudes, or decisions should refer to the desires for changes in such injustices," said Muhammad Isnur, the Chairman of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), in a collaborative video statement posted on Instagram accounts @yayasanlbhindonesia, @indonesia.hrwg, @konfederasikasbi_, @mahardhikakita, and @kontras_update, as quoted on Monday, September 1, 2025.
2. Grab Indonesia Implements WFH Policy, Launches Quick Response Feature for Its Drivers
Chief Executive Officer of Grab Indonesia, Neneng Goenadi, has implemented a work from home (WFH) policy for all of its employees during the recent demonstrations in Jakarta. The remote working scheme follows the directive from the Jakarta Provincial Government, which issued a WFH recommendation for companies affected by the protests.
Neneng stated that Grab Indonesia has started WFH since Friday, August 29, 2025. According to her, the safety of every employee is a priority as the escalation of demonstrations in several areas of Jakarta has heightened. "We will continue WFH until the situation and conditions improve," said Neneng during an online press conference on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
In addition to implementing WFH, Grab Indonesia has launched the Grab Quick Response (Gercep) feature specifically for its driver partners. This feature provides legal assistance services and psychological consultation for driver partners affected by the protests. This service can be accessed starting Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
3. 3 Points from Prabowo's Statement on the Week-Long Protest in Indonesia
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto invited political party leaders to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday, August 31, 2025. The head of state also summoned the leaders of the People's Consultative Assembly, the House of Representatives (DPR), and the Regional Representative Council amid widespread demonstrations.
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka was absent from the meeting. After the meeting, Prabowo held a press conference to discuss the issues with the political party and legislative leaders.
