1. Authorities Unveil 50,000 Tons of Illegal Coal Stockpile Along Mahakam River
The Directorate General of Law Enforcement for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has discovered piles of coal at several mining cargo jetties along the Mahakam River in East Kalimantan. It is estimated that the stockpile, weighing around 50,000 tons, originated from illegal mining activities.
"Currently, the coal stockpile has been barricaded," said Law Enforcement DG at the ministry, Jeffri Huwae, in a written statement on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. "Warning signs have been erected to declare the stockpile as state assets."
The coal stockpiles were discovered at six different locations, scattered across coal ports and within the mining areas of Loa Kulu and Sebulu Districts, Kutai Kartanegara Regency.

The Korean drama Can This Love Be Translated? that premiered globally on January 16, 2026 on Netflix has captured public attention. The main cast with excellent acting abilities, the storyline, and the real-world locations that are part of its narrative have drawn significant interest.

3. Indonesia to Cut 2026 Coal Output to 600 Million Tons
Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has confirmed plans to reduce the national coal production target in the 2026 work plan and budget (RKAB) to approximately 600 million tons. This figure is lower than the previous year's target of 735 million tons.
"For the RKAB, the Director General of Mineral and Coal is still calculating, but it's definitely around 600 million tons. It could be slightly less or more," Bahlil said in a press conference at his office on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Bahlil stated that the final coal production figure has not been determined yet. He did not explain the reason for the delay in finalizing the RKAB.
